Most professionals talk about having great passion for their work and services. It is not easy for people to be able to determine the degree of passion professionals have. I had the highest-grades for business classes when attending the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. The Wharton School has been one of three highest rated business schools in the Country for decades. However, my passion for Psychology developed such that I submitted for a transfer out of Wharton into Psychology. The Dean of Wharton then initiated and had a meeting with my parents and myself about the mistake they believed I was going to make. Nevertheless, I insisted on the transfer in Psychology and it has been my career and passion ever since.
There was a time when Psychology placed little emphasis on the role of thoughts, focusing primarily on Behavioral Psychology. Fortunately, Dr. Pasahow was at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia when Aaron Beck began developing Cognitive Therapy, which shifted this perspective. During the time there, he had the privilege of working under the supervision of Dr. Martin Seligman, who has been recognized as the "Most Influential Psychologist" for his impact on students at the college, master's, and Ph.D. levels. He has also served as President of the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Pasahow published two of the earliest theoretical and research articles in major journals of the American Psychological Association, focusing on how thought patterns can significantly contribute to emotional, intellectual, and behavioral dysfunction. This work, along with a large body of subsequent research by many psychologists, played a key role in the development of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT has since become one of the most widely used therapeutic approaches, with extensive research confirming its effectiveness in reducing human suffering.
Throughout his career, Dr. Pasahow has been fortunate to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in psychology. This has enabled him to not only practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but also integrate it with Psychodynamic Therapy, Energy Psychology, and Mindfulness-based approaches. Together, these influences led to the creation of Psychological Freedom Therapy, which draws from the strengths of multiple therapeutic methods.
Dr. Pasahow has consistently found that the quality of adulthood is shaped by how well individuals adapt to unexpected challenges. He personally experienced this when a severe back injury prevented him from playing tennis, basketball, and other sports-activities he deeply enjoyed but could no longer pursue.
Despite the difficulty of this loss, Dr. Pasahow eventually adjusted, using his experience as inspiration to write “Peak Performance in Tennis: The Ultimate Guide to Mental Fitness.” The book achieved significant success, becoming the number one bestseller on Amazon in the Tennis Coaching category for paperbacks and ranking third in the Mind-Body category for Kindle.
While life may not always turn out as planned, and setbacks can be difficult to overcome, there are still ways to adjust and find fulfillment. Dr. Pasahow’s journey is a powerful reminder that even in the face of adversity, it's possible to manage your well-being and create a meaningful, satisfying life.
Dr. Pasahow is married and has two children and three grandchildren living between New Jersey and Florida.
